March 30, 2011 – No need to keep this for one scene.

See ya.

Got this a couple of years ago as a Christmas present.

I admit, I’ve got a bit of a mancrush on Michael Cera. Put that kid in a movie, and I know I’ll enjoy quite a bit of it.

That having been said, I was pretty disappointed in this one. Just wasn’t that good, in my opinion. Save for a final scene that takes place in a GAP. I found that one scene, pants-splittingly funny.

But that’s not enough. Off it goes.

Here’s hoping the next person gets more laughs outta this than I did.

March 29, 2011 – I guess I didn’t want.

An interesting read - for someone else.

So here’s a book about the coming evolution of technology – what it means, and thinking of technology as an active organism.

While I find the topic fascinating, I give this to the RID pile today — because I realize it’ll be months, if not years…before I read it.

So…let someone else have it. And have it now.

Happy reading, whoever.

March 28, 2011 – Morality.

Play it again.

Today, I give away this philosophy book by Sam Harris.

I always struggle when people tell me atheists don’t have any moral system. Frankly, I’m amazed at the things I hear about atheists. Most things I hear would be patently offensive if they were said about another race, but for some reason, us “non-believers” are fair game.

Here’s to RIDding things that will allow the rest of the world to see us with more understanding eyes.

March 27, 2011 – Great movie, terrible photo.

A time gone by.

Oops…sorry I had my camera set incorrectly on this one.

But trust me…it’s a DVD copy of Monty Python’s Meaning of Life — a movie that I DO watch again occasionally. But, since it’s available via streaming…off the physical DVD goes.

Which makes me wonder…as so much of our entertainment is getting smaller (digital vs. physical, ipods vs. turntables, etc.) — why exactly are our homes getting so much larger?

Food for thought…

March 26, 2011 – Two frames.

Memories removed.

Couple of small picture frames here.

Both contained old photos of my daughter when she was much…much younger.

Not really a whole lot to say about these that I haven’t said previously about the difference between giving away items that contain memories, and giving away the memories themselves.

So I’ll just leave it at that.

March 25, 2011 – On local history.

Sam I am, indeed.

When I moved to Seattle – oh, so many years ago…I made an effort to bone up on the region’s history. Which was great…because Seattle was founded by a bunch of shysters, hooligans, and thieves. Good reading.

I need to do the same for my (somewhat) new home town of Dallas. But I want to read the unadulterated, “scary” history — the one not written by PR folks and people promoting things – books written by people who appreciate the honest, somewhat “scary” truth behind our nation’s history.

The above book doesn’t really qualify — so off to the RID pile it goes.

Any suggestions from Dallas residents about historical knowledge are appreciated.

March 24, 2011 – On gatherings.

Never read.

I’m in NYC right now, and it makes me think about people gathering…the advantages of it, the amazing things that happen when real people get together for real conversations.

Today, I RID this book about the kinds of places that people live in, and congregate together.

Here’s hoping we come up with new versions of them.

March 23, 2011 – A special CD post about “favorites.”

Solid effort, in my opinion.

Eagle-eyed readers of this blog will notice that I’m giving away only one CD day – a flagrant violation of my “at least 5 CDs at a time” rule…

But, I thought this CD warranted its own entry.

I just got the new REM CD – and it’s, like all of theirs, a stellar accomplishment.

So, out with the old — the last CD, to make room for the new (albeit digital) album.

Ah, nothing like a new CD from your favorite band to make for a great week.

March 22, 2011 – The defense rests?

Just not into.

It’s a little rough living in Texas and being an atheist.

You always feel like a bit of an alien walking around, what with your different set of beliefs and principles.

So, today I RID a book about making a case for God.

A case I don’t believe I’m very open to…certainly not now.

So, off it goes…to find a more receptive audience.

March 21, 2011 – Best laid plans gone awry.

Just ran out of time.

Sorry my blog entries got all screwed up yesterday – had some computer issues.

But we’re back up and running – I RID (yesterday) this book by the great environmentalist, Steward Brand.

Not really a lot to say about environmentalism that I haven’t already in previous entries — so I’ll just leave it at that.

Goodbye Whole Earth book – find someone who’s aligned with your passions.
