Yet another t-shirt I received as a gift awhile ago…
And this shirt and I…never quite got along.
Just didn’t feel it.
So today, it goes.
A simple, to the point entry for a Sunday morning, dontcha think?

Not really a lot to say about these today.
Just a pair of pants (from the Gap, ‘natch) that I’m just tired of wearing.
The nice thing about the RID project is…anything that I’m just “sorta” committed to? It goes. It’s just that simple.
And these pants? A case story of that feeling.
I thought it was finally time to get RID of my Obama inauguration t-shirt.
I find it interesting how controversial he’s become – even in the eyes of liberals. How quickly we lost our ability to look at the big picture, be civil, and try to change the nature of politics in this country.
As a far-left liberal myself, I’ve been somewhat disappointed that more progress hasn’t been made, but I’m all to aware of the challenges in getting legislation passed in this country…so, while I’d like to see the president’s performance improve…I realize that this economic time period has been challenging for bold new ideas.
But, I find the anger that this guy generates to be more than a little disturbing. It seems like he gets more than his fair share of the blame.
Gee, I wonder why that would be?
Here’s to all of us RIDding our pre-conceived notions, and being more open-minded.
So, today I start giving away some items I received as gifts…but never really used.
Today, a t-shirt brought back from France by someone I know. A t-shirt that never appealed to me.
So…maybe it’ll appeal to someone else. Someone who wants it.
Someone who didn’t have to smile and say “uh…thanks” when he received it.
Enjoy.
Not really much to say about these – just an old pair of shoes, that’s not as comfortable as they once were.
I’ve purchased a few new clothes – shoes, pants mainly — so expect to see a few of the old items get cleared out over the next few days of the RID blog.
I always enjoy the feeling of buying new clothes – of choosing carefully the next “costume” I’ll be showing to the world.
But, like most people, I don’t usually take the time to get rid of the same number of items for the “old” costumes.
The RID blog motivates me to do that.
Items coming soon…
Ah, a CD giveaway day. The highlights…
Ray Lamontagne – one of the most interesting artists to come along in quite some time. Really good music, soulful…romantic…longing music.
Live – LOVED these guys when they broke. Tragic that their last few albums fell so short.
Long Winters – if you haven’t heard of these guys, grab a CD – sit back, and enjoy. And, if you have heard them, but haven’t seen them live…remedy that immediately.
I’ve learned, over time, to trust my intuition.
My instincts often show me the path, far before my brain has applied the rigor needed. And usually, that’s a good thing.
I’ve been learning that it’s important to FEEL something is the right thing to do…even more than THINKING it is.
I’ve had some good things happen in my life lately, and I chalk it up to two things:
1) Paying attention to what I’m feeling, and doing work to understand and listen to these things.
2) Letting the universe present me with opportunities to take.
And so today, as I RID this book on intuition, I remind myself to listen to that inner voice…always.
If there’s one thing the RID project has changed my orientation towards, it’s luxury.
Luxury to me now, is simply something that is well made, and will endure.
It’s the joy of buying something for my home, that will be the LAST time I’ll ever buy that item.
Enduring luxury is not something we think about very often in American culture. We tend to think of luxury as something showy, and status oriented.
So here’s to enduring luxury. To choosing items that will represent us for the long-term.
Not like this book. This thing’s outta here.
I fear sometimes that the American culture has been set up to be a battle…always.
Blue states versus red.
Christians versus atheists.
My sports team versus yours.
As I RID this book on culture struggle today, I’m reminded how we need more things that bring us together.
Earlier this week, I wrote a note about loneliness. I wonder sometimes if this is America’s problem with loneliness – that we don’t have things to bring us together.
So, I’m going to try in the foreseeable future, to really relish the things that bring humanity together.
A song that people can sing and dance along to
A movie that allows people to share an experience of emotional release
A live event that allows a crowd to feel and express what they’re feeling – individually, as a collective.
Here’s to the things that bring us together.
