July 8, 2011 – Renoir.

Ren-not so much.

Today, I RID this book of Renoir art.

Didn’t really connect to me – I received it a number of years ago. I think I was holding on to it as a good coffee table book – but frankly, I’ve got more than enough of those.

So, here’s to RIDding Renoir. And hoping someone else treasures it in a way that I don’t.

July 7, 2011 – Dictionary.

Again, online.

A couple of days ago, I RID a thesaurus.

Today, my second dictionary of the RID project.

I think this illustrates a major story arc of the project. When I started, I felt like, “Okay, I can give away a dictionary…I own another one anyway.”

Today, I ask myself whether I need one…at all.

So goodbye dictionary. I couldn’t find a good reason to keep you.

July 6, 2011 – I never worked in food service.

Just a good read, really.

I had a lot of jobs growing up.

Bookkeeper.

Shoe salesperson.

Hardware store employee.

Telemarketing supervisor.

Farm hand.

But, somehow I never worked food service. That’s why I found this book so enjoyable. To go behind the scenes, and appreciate the hard work of the people who prepare the plates in great restaurants.

Not to say a book is better than experiencing something.

But sometimes, a close second.

Here’s hoping it’ll act as that again…for someone who gets it next.

July 5, 2011 – Thesaurus.

Time for online.

Since this is built in to every piece of computing software I now have – I just can’t think of a reason to save an analog copy of a thesaurus.

So, today…off it goes.

Today, I RID it.

Do away with. Abolish. Purge. Release. Remove.

Disburden.

You get the idea.

July 4, 2011 – Corporations could learn from this movie.

A great example of branding.

I love this movie.

Multiple comedians tell the same joke. When you watch it, you hear the same joke…over and over and over again.

So why is it so funny?

It’s because each comedian finds his/her way of telling it. Branded through their unique set of comedy.

In a world with so many “me too” products, and “me too” brands…it’s refreshing to see how it can be done.

So…off it goes.

To give someone else a laugh.

July 3, 2011 – Buddhism and wisdom.

Just not a Buddhist.

Today, I RID this book on Buddhist wisdom.

I’ve written before about how I’m not a Buddhist, but I have a lot of respect for the philosophy – especially its openness to “the other.”

So, as we prepare to celebrate July 4th – I remind myself of this philosophy, and commit myself to live more in it.

For all of us.

July 2, 2011 – Something about Mary.

Seen it. Enough.

Great movie. ‘Nuff said.

But I’ve seen it. Several times.

My guess? I might watch it 2 more times in my lifetime…just to share with other people.

And that, dear friends, is why we have Netflix.

Goodbye.

July 1, 2011 – The Royal Tenenbaums.

GREAT movie.

Really loved this movie.

But, it’s not exactly one you’d want to watch over and over again.

Well, at least I wouldn’t.

Atop the RID pile it goes.

And room is made for something new to watch…

June 30, 2011 – CDs, the Y’s.

Not many here.

End of the month…it’s a CD day!

Today, the Y’s.

Only two to discuss…

Neil Young – it’s amazing how young, how relevant, how cutting-edge this guys stays. While Bob Dylan seems to age almost daily, Neil just keeps on rockin’ in the free world.

Yes – I’ll admit I came to these guys VERY late (90125) — but when I saw them live – it was one of the most impressive sounding concerts I’ve ever seen. They didn’t miss a note – and it was truly astounding seeing how accomplished they all were. A shame really they don’t tour with the original members anymore.

June 29, 2011 – Where are the great humorists today?

Comedy from a time gone by.

I loved Spy magazine…it’s been so long since it was published…I wish someone would breathe life back into it.

For those of you who don’t remember Spy was a humor magazine that really took on the world, our culture-driven celebrity, and ourselves. And it did it in a way that was literate, illuminating, and ironic.

I wish I knew what replaced it today.

So today I RID this collection of Spy, in a great book.

In hopes it will inspire someone to create Spy 2.0.
