Today, I RID this book about the iPod.
And, it’s kind of funny getting rid of it today — as I was just thinking this weekend about how my iPhone makes my iPod unnecessary…
Coming to a RID entry soon?

Coming to a RID entry soon?
The RID project has changed the way I feel about money.
So, today…RIDding this book about our pursuit of more and more money is…really easy.
Here’s to a Sunday spent with friends, family…and those we love (Love you Mom!)
Rather than just possessions.
Today, I RID this book on the founding of Microsoft.
You know, it wasn’t that long ago — when this book was published a few years ago…that Apple seemed like an afterthought.
A company with barely 5 percent share.
Goes to show you how much can change…and how quickly.
So, it gets me thinking about things I ASSUME are true…and will always be.
What would you change if you stopped telling yourself it wasn’t possible?
I’ve been working with an executive coach for about a year now…and one of the things she’s helped me identify is the importance of music in my life. It fills me with energy, passion, and optimism.
If I’m away from my home, in a strange city (as I am now) — you can often find me at a club or concert. I feel music connects me to what’s important about humanity — and it always makes me think.
So, as I RID this book today about the future of the music industry – I’m wishing that industry well.
My love for the power of music has always made me resist the urge to “rip” music – I always feel better if I’ve contributed in some small way to the artist who made it.
(It’s also why I’ve had so many CDs to give away as part of the RID project.)
Some might say this makes me naive, I say it keeps me sane.
So, I think I’ll go listen to some music now.
Good weekend, all.
I’ve been thinking lately about how much technology is changing us.
We think of it as “just a tool,” but the reality is…the science is staring to come in solidly on the fact that it’s literally changing us…changing our brains themselves.
I’m not sure whether this is good or bad…leave that for the philosophers. Or the neurologists. Or maybe both.
So, today as I RID this book on this very topic, I’m hopeful that…whatever choices about technology we make, we make them consciously.
Here’s to critical thinking and mindful decisions.
Suffice it to say, I’ve learned a lot after blogging these 4 – 5 years.
I’ve learned that some types of posts get a lot of traffic, others don’t, still others get tons of traffic…but you don’t want it.
Today, as I RID this book about “citizen media,” blogging, and the electronic frontier — I wonder about where technology is taking us, how it’s changing us, and how we might be making different decisions about it if we stayed present about it.
I have this idea — an invention really — too early to reveal it now — about a device that would help us harness the digital memory, collect thoughts from it, then specifically take time to reflect and communicate about our digital memories and contributions.
Maybe it’s time to get in touch with some people who can help this invention see the light of day…
Today, I RID this marketing book about brands that made mistakes.
I’m releasing this book today to the world, and reminding myself that…everytime I make mistakes, I learn.
And, truth be told, some of my best experiences have come immediately after mistakes.
So, I’m off to work now.
Viva mistakes!
Today, I RID this book on creativity.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what creativity is, and how it flourishes.
My view is that we need three things to be creative:
Stimulation – It’s why we need to watch TV, read magazines, and get out there and experience stuff. I myself attended two concerts this weekend (Decemberists and Arcade Fire) and the energy, people-watching, and musing about lyrics all made me think about things I hadn’t before.
Reflection – But stimulation without time to take it in isn’t worth very much. We need to ruminate, consider, and “park the lessons” that we learned from our stimulus. This in some ways is the hardest part. Because of our over-interrupted culture with its buzzing email, mobile phone, and the like…it’s hard just to make time. (BTW, the irony that I’m writing this on a day a text message woke me up isn’t lost on me.)
Collision – Finally, true creativity comes from the collision, mixing, or blending of two ideas that produce something new.
Here’s to a great day filled with new and great creativity.
RIDding this book today written by Michael Moore.
It’s amazing to me that people who should be praising this guy, in terms of his fighting for the rights of the working man, instead act out in anger against him.
This guy fights for the rights of the lower middle class, unions, and the individual rather than the corporation. But instead of understanding that, the uninformed argue against him as a socialist, and other.
So, I’m RIDding this book today in hopes it finds one more open-minded person to read it.
Here’s wishing it the best.
Ah – end of the month…a CD day. Today, the T’s.
The Highlights:
Tragically Hip – Just got the pleasure of seeing these guys last year at the House of Blues. If you’re not familiar, I’d highly recommend downloading their Greatest Hits, or “Road Apples.” For my money, one of the finest albums ever made.
Talking Heads – to be honest, I’ve never been as big a fan of these guys as most. I will admit however, that I saw (and met) David Byrne last year…and I was VERY impressed.
Triumph – The forgotten Canadian Prog Rock trio behind Rush. “Magic Power” was my favorite song throughout my college years.
Tears for Fears – Truly a band before their time. Every time I hear the new version of “Mad World” – it reminds me what a classic that was (and is).
