Ok, seriously — WHY was I still hoarding VHS tapes?
DVDs are one thing – but c’mon – VHS? I think the last time I used the player was about 2 years ago.
Atop the RID pile they go.
Anyone who wants ’em, can have ’em.

I love these DVDs.
Mr. Show may have been the best comedy show on television.
Get a Life, starring Chris Elliot, was WAY before its time.
Chris Farley = tragic genius.
And Sports Night was the precursor to the greatness that is Aaron Sorkin.
Find them. Rent them. Experience them.
That’s all.
Short entry today, as I’m traveling.
I’m a big fan of the documentary. I love seeing things through someone’s eyes who obviously has the passion to delve into a subject deeply.
Giving away two today – the YES Men, a couple of anti-corporate PR shill improv actors who…oh, God — I can’t even explain this — just go check it out for yourself. Borat meets documentary. Laugh out loud funny and depressing all at the same time.
And “Century of Self,” an exploration of the psychological roots of PR and marketing campaigns designed to get to the heart of the American psyche.
Both great…but both never to be watched again.
Here’s hoping that find the next instigator…and soon.
This is a GREAT DVD.
It’s brought to you from the fine folks at Vice Magazine – that hyper-reality rag from deep inside Canada.
They travel in typical Vice fashion – to the slums of Brazil, to the wilderness surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, you know — all the places you WOULDN’T think of going.
I’d highly recommend it to anyone whose travel expertise needs a nudge into a not-so-expected direction.
It’s a “CD giveaway” day – today, the G’s. Some highlights…
Peter Gabriel – Like a lot of American youth, I came to the Peter Gabriel party through a little album called, “So.” He continues to amaze me through his sonic innovation, human rights orientation, and overall “Renaissance Man-ness.”
Jeffrey Gaines – Introduced to him years ago thanks to his being an opening act for Melissa Etheridge. One of those artist who has remained in obscurity for far too long. If you haven’t heard his version of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” — go to iTunes immediately, and give it a listen.
The J. Geils Band – My first “real concert” – that is, alone and on my teenaged “own.” They hit Omaha the day “Freeze Frame” hit number one, and played long into the night. To this day, one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
I love “It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia” — I find it to be the new standard bearer in inappropriate, laugh-out-loud comedy on television.
I gotta give the credit to Danny Devito – I’m not sure I’ve disliked ANYTHING he’s been in.
Well, until last Christmas, when “Always Sunny” released an Xmas special – just wasn’t up to the standards of the series.
So, goodbye special “It’s Always Sunny” — and with this post, let the holiday season begin.
Ah, yet another DVD…
I love Fiddler. I was in the chorus as a freshman when we performed it in high school, and it’s always been one of my favorite musicals.
And I think the lyrics of the song eluded to above sum up one of the great inaccuracies of how we think about rich people…
“The most important men in town would come to fawn on me!
They would ask me to advise them,
Like a Solomon the Wise.
“If you please, Reb Tevye…”
“Pardon me, Reb Tevye…”
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi’s eyes!
And it won’t make one bit of difference if i answer right or wrong.
When you’re rich, they think you really know!”
Or is it so false?
Hmmmm…
